Flower Farming – A Career Change 2021

Flower Farming – a Career Change one day intensive workshop

Has 2020 and the continuing effects given you food for thought and you want to change career and direction with your life, do you have a passion for growing and want to grow flowers professionally?

My 1 day intensive no nonsense no frills workshop will give you a real insight to a working all year round established flower farm and floristry business.

My knowledge and experience comes from already being horticulturally trained and qualified and honed on firstly working on mature established gardens around Northumberland to my appointment as Head Gardener at world renowned, multi award winning eco and sustainable  Battlesteads Hotel in 2006. I set up their growing practices, designed and set up the polytunnel growing for their micro vegetables, herbs and salads, created  bio diversity planting in the barren gardens, created and planted a wildlife pond, working there for 13 years saw me creating their composting systems, water retention project and water management systems and contribute to their winning multiple awards.
Running a business and sustainability is of utmost importance and helping others achieve that aim is important to me too.
I am Yorkshire and North East regional co-ordinator for Flowers From The Farm, helping regional members make their businesses better and encouraging the public to buy British flowers.

Previous attendees include Lavender View Farm – Cheshire, MaryField Flower Farm – Aberdeen, Jane Lewis – Foliage Farm Stamfordham, Rede Valley Flowers – Otterburn, all now productive flower farms selling to the public and to florists.

Testimonials:

Dear Kate,
Thank you so much for such an informative & detailed workshop. As it is a change in lifestyle & career it was so important that both Mark & I attended. I was apprehensive at first as he may be the only male there but it was great. He said at first he thought he would feel like a fish out of water, but everyone was so friendly, he didn’t feel out of place at all.
The content of the workshop was so clearly set out it quickly started to focus your mind on how each individual could take there ideas further. The group were so helpful sharing their ideas and thoughts & I think everyone gained help from each other, as well as your expert help & knowledge. You aimed the details at the right level for every one & did not paint a picture of flower growing with rose tinted glasses. You showed it as it truly is. Hard work & a constant learning curve, but so rewarding being able to do something you want to do & have a passion for.
Our thanks & compliment go to the chef ‘Pete’ your lovely husband. We were blown away by such an amazing lunch ( restaurant standard is an understatement), & the cake was so look yummy!
The day just got better & better. It was so informative looking around your growing area & thank you for all your tips and advice. I really didn’t want the day to end. I just wish you were nearer to me, as I would be booking on all your courses.

To anyone thinking of coming on this course, do not hesitate. It focuses your mind on what you really want, decide if it is practical for you & allows you to not just dream, but begin to set in action your ideas with your eyes wide open, but with the support & inspiration provided by Kate. A true inspiration & kindred spirit. Do not be afraid of going along if you are a man, being surrounded by women isn’t that bad, & my husbands word were , great to just be accepted for who you are and what you bring to the mix.

I hope you don’t mind if I keep in touch, it feels like you are a friend, & when we said if you & Pete are ever in the area you are very welcome to come & stay, anytime.
Hope we get to catch up at Edinburgh.  Thank you for the plants! We really weren’t expecting them.  I am going to plant them this afternoon, after I’ve been to care for my friend.  My case of flowers look beautiful & a lovely reminder of a brilliant weekend. Sending luv n hugs & special ones for your loss on Friday. Keep making lovely memories & moments with Peaches X
